Pets and Wildlife Services AU runs an education program known as PetPEP (Pets and People and Education Program) which was designed and developed by Australia Veterinary Association Veterinarians and Teachers to promote safe, healthy and responsible communities through a focus on how to interact with, understand and care for animals.

An education initiative that teaches children about responsible pet ownership and safety around animals.  Responsible pet owners are the cornerstone of local veterinary practices, and AVA (Australian Veterinary Assocition) PetPEP (Pets and People Education Program) is an inspirational investment in the pet owners of the future.

The program sees one of our Accredited Veterinary Nurses, Sarah, visiting schools to teach children about care for animals.  The tailored training session 'Caring for your Pet's Health' includes participation certificates, activities and resources and maybe even a pet during our school visits.  An independent evaluation from the University of Queensland showed that 58% of children in families without a pet asked to become owners after taking part in the program and 20% of families became pet owners as a result of an AVA PetPEP experience.

This is a great opportunity for Pets and Wildlife Services AU to demonstrate our values, care and commitment to the community and gives us the tools and resources to introduce a variety of involvement for students.

Sarah is also a co-ordinator for the AVA PetPEP Program so if your veterinary clinic or school wishes to partake in this educational program, please contact us for further information.
